Stonegate, York

Much heavy traffic in the roads today on our journey from Kent to York. Fortunately, no holdups or problems which given the volume of vehicles was very welcome.

We stopped a couple of times, first at Peterborough services for a coffee then at Long Bennington for lunch. This is where my first wife’s parents lived for a time and we visited with the boys many times.

Once we’d parked and checked in we walked the York city walls which is always a fine perambulation. We looked at a couple of places to eat out but in the end went into the Old Swan Inn on impulse as we passed by.

Walked back to the hotel through the streets of York. These revellers were out for the night in much the same way as groups of people would have been for a night out over the past 1000 years or more.

There’ll probably not much opportunity to visit your journals over the coming days, so apologies in advance
