Breakwater

Exploring Bude.  

There's a lot more here than we anticipated including one of only two sea locks in the UK connecting sea and canal from when Bude was a significant trading port (and for shipping sand, i.e. the beach, inland for farmers to use to mitigate the heavy soil); the experimental home of inventor Goldsworthy Gurney - a castle built on sand just to prove it could be done.  It's now a museum, gallery and cafe. Gurney's other innovations included steam-carriages and extra-bright oil lighting used in London including the houses of parliament.

One side of the harbour is protected by a stone breakwater of which you may see more.  The geology here is fascinating.
