By the Lake

We've now driven up to Paimpont in the Brocéliande Forest. We haven't been here before - some parts of the forest are ancient & myths & legends abound, though hunting for traces of Merlin isn't compulsory. We noticed several areas which had been damaged by wildfires as we drove along. We didn't venture out into the main forest but just walked the perimeter of the local lake - pleasant mixed woodland with views back to the town & the waterside Abbey. The path was much drier than normal & the boardwalk was redundant in all but a couple of very small patches.

As this was a waymarked route for the town there were various inscriptions & poems in places. I particularly liked this description of an owl, a water plant & a common toad etched on a glass disc mounted on a metal stand - much more interesting than standard information boards depicting local wildlife! The dynamic range & the surface reflections made it difficult to photograph but I've tried to subsequently balance the exposure so that the text, the artwork & the background are visible.
