Wasted

To combine my daily walk with Saturday chores, I walked to the local supermarket. Most of the way there and back follows a public footpath between older houses with big gardens, so it is quite pleasant and safe.

One of the houses has been sold about a year ago, and the garden is looking very sad now. The grass has never been mown, and the new owners didn't pick any of the fruit from their cherry and apple trees. It's all been left to rot, and I can't help but feeling a bit sad and angry about all that waste.

The front garden used to be full of flowers and quaint decorations before the change of ownership, but all that is gone, too. Two big cars are parked on what's left of the lawn there.

Now I wonder: Why did someone spend lots of money on an old house with a spacious garden like this, when they obviously aren't interested in it at all?
