Vienna

It’s Saturday so it must be Vienna.
Yes it’s getting to that stage of the holiday where cities begin to blur  and one church begins to look like another.

Vienna is the grand old lady of European cities and that is reflected in a certain smugness. Its been voted as the best place in the world to live, according to our young guide though she omitted to tell us how this conclusion was reached. ( see extra)

No, let’s not carp about such niceties or its wealth which is displayed in magnificent palaces, churches and buildings.

So we did all the touristy things with a walking tour of the city this morning and happened by chance to catch the famous horses from the Spanish Riding School en route to a performance (see extra). This is the only riding school in the world where the horses live in a palace designed for them.

This afternoon we visited the Museum Quarter. Again, one can only marvel at a city where culture is taken seriously, and this is reflected not only in the art acquired by the city but in the beautiful galleries designed to house them.

Tonight, a young Viennese quartet came on board to entertain us.
