To my surprise, a couple of months ago I was offered five free tickets to films at a local cinema to be used before the end of September. I don't like going to the cinema when it's light hence all my cinema trips this month. Tonight was Moonage Daydream, Brett Morgen's film about David Bowie. I knew I liked his music and I always loved his challenging of gender roles (see his glorious riposte to Russell Harty) which felt pretty idiosyncratic at the time but now feels prescient. But I didn't know I'd like him and his intelligent, thoughtful and playful approach to life so much.

He was determined to make every day worthwhile and seeing this film justifies a day's life, even though it'll use up only two-and-a-quarter hours of your 24.
