Birthday Candles Puzzle

On Wednesday night I went to a friend's house for a Mexican birthday dinner. When it came to dessert (pear almond cake), her kids were insisting that she should have candles on the cake.
Not finding the right candles for her age, the 11 year old boy put those three onto the cake :)
