Liverpool Open Day

Dear O'H dear, Lovely Tea Jenny and The Eldest Mini Princess,

The Youngest Mini Princess and I went to the open day today.

I may have been very excited. Going round listening to the subject talks, getting the free cups of tea and tote bags. Oh, and YMP liked it too! I have no idea if she’ll end up there but we both really liked Liverpool. It’s a really cool place with a great vibe.

When we were done, we jumped on the first from Liverpool to Wigan (to catch a connecting train to the Edinburgh)…

There was a young child in the carriage screaming VERY loudly. For ages. Now, listening to screaming is (obviously) grating but is always worse for the parent(s). Children under a year old tend to be as controllable as hell-beasts on acid so clearly a ‘grin and bear it’ situation for everyone else.

Unless you are the bloke who thought shouting “contain that brat” was helpful advice. Spoiler - it wasn’t.

Well…hell hath no fury like an enraged Liverpudlian mum and her mate. Merry hell kicked off (while the rest of us did the very British thing of pretending that absolutely nothing was happening). Liz (RIP) would have been proud. Never has the scenery been more fascinating.

On a decibel scale of 1 - 10, it was a 10. No point in a transcript as most of it would be asterisks. The bloke didn’t stand a chance - which served him right. Interestingly, the child stopped screaming. Probably realised there was zero chance of him being heard above his mum and her mate.

This continued until the 2 women and the child got off at their stop (St Helen’s central in case you’re interested) and the gentleman who had offered his sage advice gave the parting shot of “c***” just as the doors closed.

Thankfully the rest of our journey passed without incident!
