Its a Crying Shame -

- that you can't get to Keswick by train anymore.  Originally a station on the Penrith to Cockermouth line. Mr Beeching closed the line west of Keswick in 1966 and the line east to Penrith in 1972. Beeching had not envisaged the  time when we would need more public transport in the Lake District and far less cars. Keswick Station is now owned by the Keswick Hotel next door but it looked unused and unloved to me. Its Grade 2 listed so they can't knock down .  Why don't they turn it into a restaurant or  cafe?  With the very busy Keswick to Thelkeld cycle/walk way going past the platform on the old trackway, you would think there would be lots of custom.
My car was having its its annual MOT and service at the Fiat garage in Keswick which encourages me to walk round the town exploring.
