The Big Dipper

My friend JB is visiting today. Since this might be his last visit to us in Sussex we decided to walk the 'big dipper', the 22 miles from Lewes to Eastbourne over the South Downs and along the undulating coast taking in Seaford Head, the Seven Sisters, Belle Tout and Beachy Head. When we reached the river Cuckmere the incoming tide was still low enough for us to wade across the river rather than taking a mile or so detour to the bridge. A glorious walk in perfect conditions and the bonus of seeing dozens of Clouded Yellow butterflies coming in from the sea crossing. That takes me to 43 species for the year.
