Blustery North Coast

Our mini holiday started today with a trip down from Dave and Lesley's to the North Coast of Cornwall.  This, as it happened, turned out to be a mistake on a number of levels apart from one - the walk we were able to take on the beach off Gwithian which was the reason for booking our 4 nigths there - lots of walks along the rugged rolling sea views.  Unfortunately it turned out to be a little too rugged and rolling the rest of the time.  Despite being somewhat sheltered in our spot on the campsite, the wind at night ripped a 2 foot tear in the new awning and L couldn't sleep much of the night because the van was 'rolling' slightly back and forth in the howling wind.  Add to that the internet and even phone signal were almost non existent and we had a BG emergency which took 5 hours of struggling to contact my GM with and by the time we woke up the next morning we were definitely out of there - not before we did the one walk to make the time worth it at least.  Matters didn't improve when the officious campsite lady said we had paid up front for 4 nights so that means no refund - of course the weather wasn't their fault, though they could have made a better job of the internet - (I can't believe how bad some places are and other campsites have superb internet especially in Europe).  I acknowledged that we had no actual right to a refund, but that it would have been a kindness in the light of our rather unfortunate visit but she was adamant that she did not want to be kind.
Still we move on to pastures new next - tomorrow's blip (its today now!)  And things can only improve! Photo is a Cormorant by the way
