Now, as I see it......

Mice to the rescue

Our hotel for two nights is right on the Aegean at the bottom of the large hill where the ancient fortifications of Assos are situated.  This morning we visited the ruins which were very interesting and quite challenging physically.  The ruins are spread over different levels on the hill so there was some walking down quite steep paths to get to different parts of the site; thankfully, our guide found a way to (unofficially) leave the site without having to climb all the way back up to the top, and our coach met us there.

This afternoon we headed off to the Temple of Appollo Smintheion at Gulpinar; another interesting site, and we were the only people there.  The temple has been partly reconstructed and there is currently this display on the steps.  Apparently, according to legend a siege failed when, while the attacking soldiers were sleeping, hundreds of field mice came down and ate all the leather on the clothing and guns.

A bit earlier back to the hotel this afternoon so we have a little time to relax before dinner.
