Bonkers about conkers

There is a lot that is bonkers in the world today but I can't help smiling at the sight of conkers. Sadly these ones were squashed on the access road to Chobham Recreation Ground, just some of the many shed by the horse chestnut trees that ring the Rec. I have happy memories as a child of choosing a nice big shiny conker, hardening it up in vinegar, stringing it and going into battle with friends' conkers. Much more fun, I venture to suggest, than kids have today playing computer games.
