Back in time

I went to a talk in the Guildhall in Guildford today as part of the Guildford Book Festival. It was given by Anna Keay on her book, The Restless Republic. This tells the story of the 11 years in which England was a republic,  between the execution of King Charles l and the restoration of the monarchy with King Charles ll in 1660. It was very interesting with a lot of surprising  resonance, in terms of a divided country, to issues of recent times. The photo is of a clock on a panelled wall in the Guildhall. I don't know how old it is but it made me reflect on the passage of time, especially as next to it was a full length painting of King Charles ll and now, 362 years later, we have King Charles lll.
