What did I see today...?

Portomarin - Palas De Rei

Today was a day of varied terrain, beginning with an early start and a chance to watch the sun rise over the reservoir beside Portomarin (Owen Blipped it!). From there it was into woodland and a steep climb up to the main road in the area, which we then walked along (and over and back again) almost the whole day - happily there's were lots of paths alongside so it wasn't all tarmac walking.

Breakfast had been purchased the night before and we stopped alongside a quieter patch of road to eat - overlooking lovely rolling hills and basking in the sun. As we ate a lot of fellow pilgrims, almost all of whom we now recognised and could wish a Buen Camino! wandered past - we caught a few up later in a rest area just down the path (it was shaded though, and didn't have the view!)

The evening saw us finishing in Palas de Rei where Mark and I managed to find some football to watch and then we all had a nice meal in a restaurant beside the hostel - it was so nice we decided to come back there for breakfast the next day! After dinner some of us went to find more football (and a drink) and met up with more fellow pilgrims in the bar - and that was where Pepe mentioned Melide and the Pulpo Garnacha...
