Hakea Victoria

On Sunday we had met up with the amazing Georgina Steytler, the guru of bird photography.  It was wonderful to catch up with her again and this time she sent us on a hunt for not only the Verticordia but the Royal Hakea.  I had never heard of them before.  They are to be found in great numbers in the Fitzgerald River National Park and we would be driving right past them on the way home to the mountains.

After calling into the Community Resource Centre in Hopetoun and speaking with the Hakea guru Donna we headed out the park.  Well, we found them and honestly they are spectacular.  Mind you it wasn’t hard,  once you had entered the park, they appeared everywhere.  It was a wonderful experience and we both agreed it was one of the highlights of the trip for us.  I’m attempting to add a couple of extras but reception is intermittent.  We drove on to Cape le Grand and were treated to a glorious sunset over the ocean.
