Oxborough Hall

A glorious start to the day again. Less wind but a touch of coolness in the air that hasn’t been there the rest of the week.

After breakfast we took a walk down to the sea (extra) spending about an hour saying our farewell to Southwold and returning through the centre of town where a market was just setting up.
We travelled north through the lanes of Norfolk, some lovely seasonal colour in the hedgerows and the trees. We stopped at Oxborough Hall, a moated, Tudor National Trust property near Downham Market. A great place for a coffee break.
My first thought was this shot was perfect for Flower Friday but - oops- it’s only Thursday!

We then crossed the Lincolnshire fens to the city of Lincoln where we are spending a night. Cloudier by now but after checking in in the city centre we spent a couple of hours up the (very) steep hill in the Cathedral Quarter. As we approached the cathedral the clock chimed 4.00pm. When we went in we were informed that entry was free after 4.00! I did make a donation.
A magnificent building, absolutely huge, seats were set out for a matriculation service tomorrow and they were preparing for evensong. A modern addition for a cafe, shop and exhibition centre showing how some of the ancient damaged stone is being skilfully replaced.

The area around the cathedral is very attractive with cobbled streets, old houses and shops. We will hopefully return in the morning to look at the medieval Bishops Palace and Castle if the weather continues to be kind. There is also a copy of the Magna Carta here too. Lots to see and a good place to round off our break in eastern England.
