Time travel

Up at 6am to get to the airport. All went smoothly and enjoyed watching a couple of episodes of First Wives on the plane on the way to Brisbane then as usual a bit of a wait for the car.
Weird to find ourselves an hour earlier…how can we have crossed a time zone without realising?! Headed down to RabyBay for lunch overlooking the pleasure boats in a harbour. We had a big fish platter which was huge but delicious, but had to guard it from the marauding Ibis (or bin chicken as it’s called here!).
Cloudy all day, but definitely warmer than Melbourne. Passed lots of signs saying to watch out for Koalas and report injured animals, but we didn’t see any. Did see hundreds of cockatoos filling trees along the way. We struggled a bit with the sat nav but eventually got it sorted to drive south via Surfer’s Paradise to see the beach (beautiful) and the skyscrapers (huge) to Byron Bay. We realised we’d crossed time zones again so arrived half an hour late unintentionally for the check in, but soon sorted. We have a little studio apartment bang in the centre of town, so once we’d put our stuff in the apartment we set off to look round the town and along the beach…another gorgeous one. Lots of people chilling on the beach and street corners, playing drums, busking and chatting. Lives up to the sign at the entrance to the town… ‘Cheer up, slow down, chill out’.
We wandered all around the place then stopped for a margarita and some guacamole and nachos, sitting at a pavement table and watching the world go by…loads of people and hippy kids and dogs. Very chilled!
Home early and slobbed for a while, we’re tired!, plus some googling about what to do tomorrow. Nice to be on this next stretch of our holiday
