I Love A Parade

I am always attracted to the sound of a parade and tonight while having dinner with our friends in town I kept hearing those very sounds, drums drumming and horns blaring. We headed over to La Cancha and encountered a full-fledged celebration. It appeared to be a fifty year celebration of a local school, Eva Sámano de Lopéz Mateos. As near as I can tell from the Spanish Wikipedia site, she was first lady of Mexico from 1958 to 1964, while married to President Adolfo Lopez Mateos and opened a high school here in Zihuatanejo in 1963. It seemed that they were bringing in graduates of the school from each of the decades since. The first to arrive were quite old, but subsequent groups entering La Cancha got younger and younger until current students started showing up dressed in a variety of outfits (mimes, Mickey Mouse ears, ballerinas, etc.) and carrying flags and these cool lanterns. As usual, it was total chaos and great fun!
