Hairy Violet

Pete has been up in Leeds since Tuesday, teaching on their Masters course in Wildlife Conservation, so just Chris and I made the last visit to Conington, on a warm but very blustery day.

We had a productive time at the southern end of the site, which has areas of unmanaged habitat and lots of sheltered corners, but when we headed to the north end, we found that virtually everything had been closely mown and the strong wind made invertebrate survey impossible.

I had a quick walk round to check for one or two plants that I hadn't been able to find in July, but was unsuccessful. However, several of the Hairy Violet were flowering again, not an uncommon occurrence, particularly after a dry summer.
