The Wonder of the Ordinary

It's mono, but not today's, obviously, not on the topic, and a photo of a photo of a photo that Deb (the baby in the photo) used in her preaching last Sunday, but went well with this poem by William Martin:

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples, and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.

Really made me think... Deb, our first (as with most firstborns?) suffered the most with my striving to be an extraordinary Mum... Would love to know what folk think of the sentiment here... is it always foolish to strive for the extraordinary??

Gratefuls:
- tackling a load of clutter today (looks even messier now!)
- beautiful skies and water on the Lula walk at sunset with Mike
- some plans coming together for the next days

and last, but not least...
- our three brilliant children!
