Light and Shadows

On our way down from church to the Adega, saw there was a new exhibition on here (the old grain storage place now used as an exhibition centre), went in, and so glad we did, it was the best exhibition I've seen yet here. Fifty black and white photos documenting the two years when the neighbouring village of Luz (Light) was demolished so the reservoir could fill with water, and the folk, graves, church were moved to a newly built village.

Each individual photo was stunning, but it was the narrative that really made it outstanding. As the photographer, José Maria Ballester, a native of Luz, says (loosely translated): "The story that these images tell is, after all, how the Village of Light became the Village of Shadows... the path, the transition, the evolution...  from the affirmation of life to the inexorable destiny of death."

Gratefuls:
- such talent right here in our district, and that we bothered to go in
- seeing our architect in the Adega, and meeting his father
- the prospect of Sem Fim and friends in a bit...
