The Centre - Reborn

In our village there is a little place which was originally known as the “Old People’s Shelter”. It was gifted to the Parish by the Lane Fox family (the owners of Bramham Park) in 1968 (it was built in 1960). The name was the personal covenant of the benefactor when the building was handed over. It was extended in the 1980s and was subsequently renamed (with the agreement of the benefactor’s family) to the “Senior Citizens Centre” - to reflect the more PC term for old people! It has featured in a previous blip! Sorry for the unseasonal shot but it is the only blip I have of the old place…

The centre was basically a small room where old folk could meet up for a natter and a cuppa!

Recently the Parish Council decided to upgrade the building as it was beginning to show its age. When it was being demolished it was discovered that the foundations were failing and it was likely to have fallen down on its own sometime soon.

Well the new foundations are in - so it won’t be long before it is rebuilt. It will be formally known as the “Bramham Parish Centre” and will be open to all residents (again the name change and usage has been agreed with the Lane Fox family)…there will be an accessible toilet and a kitchenette (sink and kettle)…..
