Reverting to Coal

Ratcliffe on Soar power station, seen steaming here, was commissioned in 1968 and was due to be decommissioned by 2024. It's one of only three coal powered power stations in the UK. But, there's an energy crisis, so it's been brought back into service. This was our view from Beacon Hill on Charnwood Forest. As the name suggests, it lies in the valley of the River Soar.

It was a lovely afternoon. Very pleasantly warm in the Autumn sunshine even on top of the hill where it's frequently breezy. After a bit of a walk there and a run for Basil, we transferred to the bottom car park where we enjoyed a latte at the cafe.  Extra is of the boys, Len and Basil.
