The Rhinns of Kells

Today's the day ......................... for the great outdoors

We spent the morning exploring the fascinating little village of St John's Town of Dalry, before we headed home.  We were keen to visit Dalry Kirk to find the tombstone of two well-known Covenanters, killed in 1684 on Auchencloy Hill (see extra).   

This is the view as we climbed out of the village, of the southern end of the Rhinns of Kells - a range of Galloway hills that are part of the Southern Uplands.  The hills of this range are the second-highest of the Galloway Hills, with the highest hill, Corserine, reaching 814 m.

The area is full of footpaths and cyclepaths and is a popular place for visitors who like to be outdoors.  The long-distance footpath which runs from west to east across the south of Scotland, known as the Southern Uplands Way crosses the River Ken at Dalry ........................
