Lighthouse

Today's the day .................... to stay home

I haven't been anywhere today - but why would I when 'home' was so comfortable and there was so much to explore?!

We had a guided tour of the working lighthouse and this is the view looking vertically upwards from the bottom of the tower.  The grey coil is the underside of the spiral stone steps - and the coloured oblongs are the rolled up semaphore flags that were used back in the day before ship-to-shore radio was invented.  We were very lucky to have someone in the group who was the daughter of a lighthouse keeper.  More than that, he had been keeper at the Fanad in the 1970s and early 80s - and so she had lived here too.  She had plenty of stories to tell and it brought it all to life for us.

The other extras are just a flavour of the magic of Fanad . . . .
