Formaggio e pasta

It’s late, and the wifi is intermittent. I may have to post this at breakfast tomorrow. It’s been a long day…

We began with a walk from the outer limits of Altamura out into the wide limestone countryside, through freshly ploughed dark fields and paler stony ones, with the sun shining on the puddles from the overnight rain as the wind blew the clouds away. We saw a kite circling effortlessly above and a golden butterfly among the tiny white snail-shells that I remember from our last visit.
The photo shows Altamura on its hill, rising above the surrounding plain.

Eventually, accompanied by a wolf-like but friendly dog, we arrived at the dairy farm where we were to watch the papa making cheese , meet the animals and eat lunch (cheese!) Later, our boots caked with mud and more we piled into the minibus that appeared and headed back to town.

Before dinner in Tre Archi we had another cookery class there, making pasta and rolled veal, both of which (though not our own) featured at the meal. And then I had to check in for tomorrow’s flight, and get some packing done … and here I am!

My Italian, you’ll be glad to know, has been extremely useful!
