Opera and autumn

Today I saw my first production of Aida, streamed live from the Royal Opera House at the Macrobert arts centre.

Well, you either love or hate it.
It’s in modern dress, set in totalitarian state based in a bunker. At times it felt like three and half hours of unremitting misery, not helped by a cold cinema.
It seemed to have an uncanny resonance with todays war in Ukraine, with references to North Korea, China and Russia though the opera was completed in 2020 before Covid.

At the risk of sounding like a total philistine it was a relief to get out into the warm autumn sunlight of Stirling University.

Opera buffs will appreciate this balanced review
