Breakey Blips

Freedom!

Somewhat appropriately, this photo was taken at the world heritage site, New Lanark near the ancient market town of Lanark, the birth place of William Wallace the freedom fighter/ terrorist.

The cotton mills in New Lanark firmed the industry for a social experiment in the early 1800s. The manager, Mr Owen, provided housing, good wages, schooling, healthy food for sale and further education to assist in improving the employees. And limiting the age of child employees to over 10.
That all sounds good but the utopia turns a bit dystopian when you realise that they were paid in 'mill money'. So breaking out from the community would have been so difficult.

A beautifully bizarre thing happened today. I was visiting New Lanark as an activity at a clergy conference, and I met my sister in law and her husband there who had randomly cone down for the day.
