Weaving Tartan

Another Sunday drive for Mrs F and I. We dragged an old 1980's AA Tours of Britain book out from the bookshelf and decided to try the route around Clyde Muirshiel Park.

Headed up through Largs to Inverkip where we got some photos of boats coming and going from the Marina. We then headed inland to the Greenock Cut and Loch Thom before continuing on to Greenock for a spot of lunch.

We then headed for Kilbarchan to visit the Weavers Cottage of 1723 where Christine, from the National Trust for Scotland, showed us how to weave on a 200 year old loom. It was very interesting and she showed us the yarn being laid up to produce a new tartan for the new Bannockburn centre. The cottage was great and I would recommend it. Very interesting to see how people lived back then.

We returned to Largs on the high road via Lochwinnoch and Kilbirnie. All in all a nice drive although the weather could have been better.
