Farewell, campers

Owen is up early, for his sins. The rest of us surface slowly, one by one. After tea and toast, it’s time for walking the policies. Sheep and chickens, tunnels and garden, buildings and vegetables.

Boron and Theresa drop in for a welcome visit, but within the hour everyone is gone. Kerry and I sort and bag up the first three potato varieties: Gypsy Pink, Record, Arran Victory.

We load up the condensing hood and head east. Somehow we get it sitting on the oven, avoiding the unfortunately placed strip light. It starts off propped up by a stepladder, but a quick trip to B&Q later, there’s a credible wooden frame and drip pipe feeding into a bucket (extra). Let’s see how it survives tomorrow.

Omelette for tea back in Earlston, followed by a cosy evening in front of the fire.
