port day

back blip
When we woke this morning we were in stavenger. We had booked a trip called Stavenger at leisure. We were taken all round the town stopping at a monument called the 3 swords. It is a lovely town full of wooden house, some very old and some very new. It boasts a cathedral and is a very strategic town in the area
(The monument consists of three swords that are fixed into the grown. They symbolise peace, unity and freedom. The hilts of the Viking swords are taken from swords found in different parts of the country. The monument is made by Fritz Røed (1928-2002), and was unveiled by King Olav in 1983.) thanks to google
Back on the coach we journeyed to a small fishing village called Turid Beaubien where we had coffee waffles, in my case gf apple cake.
There was a statue of two little girls and a light house. The story goes that their mother wanted to go the mainland and their father took her but on the way home a storm blew up and the little girls went out to rescue their father and brother. Sadly the father perished but they saved their brother and got him back to the lighthouse safely. The statue commemorates their bravery.
On the way back to the ships we went underground to other islands and over bridges. A leisurely afternoon on board. the ship left port at 4:30 and we stayed on deck whilst is said down Lysefjord.
Alan went to this evenings show and I listened to the violin and cello trio. They have been good all week
