A Day Worth Recording

Horizontal Hold

The camera is horizontal.  The building is not.

Travelling back from Sheffield today.  As the trip is longer than I prefer to do in one haul we'd been eyeing up various locations to break the journey.  On the way up we paused at Bolsover Castle (English Heritage) where the unenthusiastic staff were clearly packing up early so we just wandered around Bolsover.

On this trip, we'd spotted an RHS Partner Garden at Middleton Hall.  This was a much better find and will probably become a regular break in the journey.

It's a fascinating place - built over multiple centuries with multiple building methods. Restored and run by an independent trust with warm and welcoming volunteer staff.  It was lovely to just be able to walk around at will, nothing roped off or smothered in Do Not Touch.  Only a few rooms are furnished - most of it is clear space (it's used for weddings etc.).

Highly recommended if you're passing around the north of Birmingham.
