Wonder at The Deep

This being half-term, we'd promised Eben an outing, and his choice was to go to The Deep in Hull: an aquarium (with various allied attractions) right next to the mouth of the Humber estuary.
Plan A had been for Ruth and Luca to join us. But Ruth still has her heavy cold.  Plan B was for Richard to come, so that we could take both boys, but he still has a bad cold too. So Luca went off to nursery, as usual on a Weds, though he wasn't particularly pleased about it.  I had baulked at the idea of managing both Luca and Eben on the long car journeys, and in The Deep itself, which I knew would be crowded. The joint trip will have to be for another day.
So on to Plan C: Eben and I went off to The Deep together.  We had a lovely time: lots of chatting in the car, and then some good explorations in The Deep, and various treats for lunch (chips, yes, ice cream yes).
The Deep has some good interactive exhibits, and Eben happily immersed himself in several of them. The one in the extra is one I've blipped before: a spinning globe, with adjustable sliders to show the impact of global warming and sea level rises. Somehow this one manages to be fun to handle, even though the underlying message is necessarily sobering. The whole place has a strong, positive emphasis on what can and must be done about the growing climate emergency, and - from what I've seen - that message does engage visitors in thinking about it all.
