Whitchurch Wander !

Woke up this morning to a bright sunny day.
Got up & went & had a cup of tea with my Mum at Edgcott.
Home by 1:30 had a quick sandwich then went out for a little drive to Whitchurch which is located on the A413 Buckingham Road. Its an interesting village & I have wanted a wander there for some time but never taken the time. We parked in the High Street & walked down to Spring Cottage to look at Whittle Hole spring (pictured). From there we joined the village circular walk and walked down by a stream before crossing into the field where the 13th Century castle mound is located - called Bolebec Castle. (Built by Hugh de Bolbec but destroyed by Cromwell's boys during the civil war). At the base of the mound is another spring called Fair Alice Spring which according to legend never stops flowing and has healing properties. From there we walked down Castle Lane & looked up Market hill where a charter for a market was granted a few years back. No market there now but the area is full of chocolate box cottages & beautiful old houses. Back onto the A413 and along to the old Courthouse which faces onto the A413. Built in 1200 it remained in service until 1900.
Another of Whitchurch's treasures is Churchill's Toyshop or MD1. Nicola's boyfriend works there & I may visit that at another time & tell you the story another day.
From there we went on to Hardwick to look around the churchyard & then on to visit Carol's mum who is still black & blue following a fall.
We are home now about to tuck into Chicken salad & new potatoes prepared by my gorgeous wife Carol whilst I was out this am.
The wine is open & so is the beer - see you tomorrow !
