Cocklawburn Rainbow

The plan for today was to have a lazy start before heading out for a midday swimming session at the local leisure centre.

The plan delivered and it was late morning by the time we headed out for a little pre-emptive pootle around Berwick. We’ve been before and whilst it is a lovely little town, it offers precious little in the way of eateries for hungry swimmers, so we were doomed to have a Greggs.

We’d earned it though as the swimming pool was lovely and the children slide down slides, swam a couple of lengths, did some silly jumps into the pool and had a lengthy game of water polo, which was great fun. There was a story unfolding when we got out of the pool as it transpired that a small girl (not one of mine) had locked herself in one of the toilets, but fortunately she was soon prised free and no doubt traumatised for ever.

Unhappy at the Greggs lunch, at the very least I wanted to find a nice spot for us to eat it and then remembered that we would need to pass the turn-off for Cocklawburn Beach, so we headed there and found a prime spot in the car park where our lunch was devoured. Just as we were chowing down the light rain that had been pinging off the car stopped and for the briefest moment we were left with this glorious sight!!

We took it in for a little while and then courtesy of some spends provided by LadyV, we had an ice cream and headed down for a lovely walk along the beach and a game of wave dodging, which was much more successful today.

We played a couple of games in the afternoon before heading out to the arcades again and then stopped at the Mash and Barrel for a while. The queue to order dinner was 25 mins, so I was grateful for the presence of the Eldest who kept the wee ones occupied.

Dinner was good when it came and we all waddled back to the ‘van at the end of another lovely day.
