Eathie Gorge

If you take the straightforward route from Inverness to Cromarty, it's an A road, and sometimes it even gets maintained. But if you take the road less travelled through Eathie, and you're very careful of your suspension, you pass an insignificant entrance to a footpath. There's space for only two cars to park. And if you venture down the path, you finish up going through this gorge. Which, as well as being spectacular, is rather famous. [By the way, ignore the "oops", read the whole thing.]

You want another incentive to go up that road? Keep it slow, because there's a point where, on your left,  you can see across Sutherland to Caithness; and on you right, you can see the Cairngorms. Worth the picnic.
