A traditional craftsman

This afternoon we collected a much loved and used wicker chair from Colin Johnson, a traditional craftsman who once worked on the Mackintosh furniture in Glasgow School of Art, long before the two fires.

For he belongs to a dimishing pool of skilled artisans and the only one I could find prepared to repair a wicker chair.

To walk into his workshop is to step into a bygone age. He operates from a two roomed former schoolhouse built in 1740 for the children of itinerant Irish workers in the remote hamlet of Ruskie.

And  our chair, a week ago destined for landfill, is now back in use ( see extra).
