If you can't beat them...

Smoke Bush ( Cotinus coggygria )

Following on from yesterday's Fungi I decided on another sign of Autumn, Autumn colour.  Those who know Cotinus will know that in summer the leaves are deep purple, in fact almost black.  As you can see from my colour popped image they turn a very bright red in autumn.

An unusual day as we had slept at the Lodge.  The Lodge is only a few miles from home so we have very rarely felt the need to stay overnight.  Today we had a mattress being delivered and the time slot given was 7:00 to 10:00 the idea of being up and arriving at the Lodge before 7:00 just did not appeal.  As it happened the delivery was just after 8:00.  Considering the lads had set off from Birmingham at 5:00 they had made good time.
