Medal from the Queen

This is my most amazing friend Kim Douglas who today was awarded a British Empire Medal from the a Queen.

Tragically she lost her son to undiagnosed severe asthma. He died in his sleep at the age of three.

The facts regarding asthma are frankly bloody shocking!

She set up a charity called the George Coller Memorial Fund in 1999. Its aim is to provide a brighter future for children with asthma,

I came on board not longer after and continue to proudly be a trustee today.

It has been nothing but an honour to provide a little help and support to Kim along her journey. Her charity now employs an Asthma Nurse at Birmingham Children's Hospital and provides asthma training for school nurses across the country. She is currently campaigning for emergency asthma kits in school. The Lord Lieutenant who awarded the medal went away with a respectful flea in his ear about the desperate need for them.

She is also a fantastic friend who I don't get to see as much as I like but when I do I thoroughly enjoy her company.

It was a wonderful service which she chose to have around the corner in the local primary school which her two surviving children attended.
