Callanish Standing Stones, Isle of Lewis

Back in our own tent last night, we slept really well and woke up to more miserable weather! We drove north through Harris to the Isle of Lewis and went to see these standing stones. The information boards were quite to the point, the stones are approximately 5,000 years old and nobody really knows why they are there. Some similar stones line up with the sun, or the stars, but these don't!

Being the Sabbath everything was closed, we headed to Stornaway in search of something, somewhere to escape the weather but nothing was open! So we drive back to our campsite and hung out around the log stove in the Blackhouse (cooking shelter/ living room/ traditional thatched building). We may be the only people to visit Harris and not see any Harris tweed!
