Northton, Isle of Harris

We woke up freezing in the night after the fire in the yurt went out! Relaying and lighting a fire at 3am and then waiting for an hour to warm up wasn't a great start to the day! Once we woke up properly Andy's birthday celebrations began! Cards and presents, and I'd managed to hide a cake and candles amongst the camping things. Having breakfast inside a yurt while the rain battered down outside was quite nice!

Then we went for a drive around the island, exploring the more exposed west coast which has beautiful long sandy beaches. We could imagine that they would be incredible in the sunshine! We discovered the 'Templar Cafe' and had nice cake while we watched the weather sweep over the sea through the window. We decided to go out in the rain for a blustery walk and got absolutely soaked before the sun came out. For a whole 30 minutes it was glorious, I even took my coat off! We drove north along the 'golden road' named because of the cost of building it through the crazy lunar, rocky, landscape! Dinner was a previously prepared beef stew complete with plastic mug of wine and a slice of birthday cake.
