Ooooooo.....AM I NOT BEAUTIFUL?

This is the Violet Turaco (Musophaga violacea): a.k.a. Violet Plantain Eater.
~
This pair lives in the zoo in Milwaukee but their native habitat is in West Africa, and has an extremely large range from Senegal through to the Nigeria, with an isolated population in Chad and Central African Republic. It occurs in tropical savannas, wetlands, woodlands and forests.  It's amazing to see them fly as the primary flight feathers are a very bright red.
~
Diet consists of fruit, and they are quite partial to figs, but they will also eat leaves, buds, flowers, insects, snails and slugs.
