SILLY SATURDAY - BUTTS FARM BUTCHERY & SHOP VISIT

Hello Lovely Blippers,

JH Ted here - well what a lovely morning we have had!  You may remember that when Mr. and Mrs. HCB went to Butts Farm Butchery and Farm Shop last Wednesday they were told that there would be tasters of the various sausages that Carl makes, if they went over after 11 o’clock.

Knowing the HCBs, we weren’t at all surprised when they said this morning that they were going over to the Farm Shop.  However, we chatted amongst ourselves and as it was our first time, thought (a) 20 of us would be too many at once and (b) it might be too traumatic for Laura Lamb and Reeth, the piglet, to see all their cousins laid out!

So between them, Mr. & Mrs. HCB chose just a few of us to go, so you can see me sitting on top of the apples, Snowy near the lovely cabbages, Hoggy - because he will be hibernating soon, Mrs. T sitting on top of a butternut squash and Leyburn chewing on a carrot.  We could see there was a lot of Christmas stuff behind us, but it’s far too early to be thinking about that and I know that many of you will agree.  In fact, it is quite silly to be thinking of Christmas when the sun is shining and it’s very warm - and we are sure that would have made Admirer laugh.

Whilst we were frolicking amongst the vegetables, a lady came into the shop and Mr. HCB - not Mrs. HCB as it usually is - said that he knew her.  Once they both got talking to her, and she was very surprised to see them, they realised that it was the lovely lady who used to own the pharmacy opposite their doctors’ surgery, but she retired a few years ago.  However, she said she now works actually IN the surgery, but said she had never seen the HCBs in the surgery.  Mrs. HCB told her that they didn’t often go to the surgery, as they were both very well, which is great news and the lady said she was pleased to hear that.

Then the HCBs went over to the meat counter on which were plates of cut up sausages and what an array it was!  Carl was there and we heard him tell the HCBs that they could have as much as they liked and he even offered a slice of bread so they could make a sandwich.  Well, have you ever heard anything like that before?

The sausages were Mediterranean Pork, Spanish Chorizo Style, Pork and Marmite and last but not least Pork and Wild Garlic - they were all delicious, but Mrs. HCB wasn’t that keen on the spicy Chorizo ones, and Mr. HCB didn’t seem very keen on the Pork and Marmite, but when he tasted some said they weren’t that bad.  However, they both really liked the Pork and Wild Garlic, so they ended up buying two of each as well as some Faggots and also some Minced Lamb and Mint Swirls.

Mrs. HCB asked Carl if he used Red Hot Chilli Peppers in his sausage recipes and when he said he did, she told him that she had lots in the freezer and he could have them if he would like them - who knows they may even do a deal!!

Tarryn, the lady owner, said that Carl was a bit embarrassed by all the attention following Mrs. HCB’s photograph of him on Blip last week, so I heard her say to Tarryn that she would take her photograph as well.  Tarryn said she was quite happy not having hers taken, so she tried to hide - but Mrs. HCB doesn’t give up easily, as you all know - and you can see the result in the extra collage.

What a good time we all had and everyone was so friendly and happy - there was no rush to move us all and Carl gave the HCBs wonderful, personal service, they said.  Whilst they were being served, we enjoyed watching other people coming into the shop too.  We had hoped that the HCBs would buy us a chocolate brownie, but perhaps next time.

I think the HCBs will be going back very soon for more of their lovely meat and we heard Mr. HCB say that it was worth driving the 10 miles for the good service and scrummy sausages, which they will be having for their meal tonight.  I wonder if we will get any of them?

Take care and we hope you all have a great weekend.

Love from JH Ted, Snowy, Hoggy, Mrs. T. and Leyburn xxxxx
