Remembrance Sunday

We used to go to the wreath laying each year on this Sunday when we lived in Stratford.  Worcester holds a Remembrance Sunday service and wreath laying at the war memorial in the Cathedral grounds and we went along before 11am.  The crowd was much larger than at Stratford and roads in the centre of Worcester had been closed to traffic. 

We had a side view but there was a good sound system for all to hear the brass band, singing and words.  A cannon sounded at the beginning of the two minute silence which lasted until the cathedral bells tolled the time with eleven bongs.

We left after a while as we were driving to Stratford to see Tom and Rachel whom we met at York's Cafe at their new branch in Bell Square.  We had a nice chat and drink.

On our way back to the car park we went down High Street and I took this photo of the town hall wearing its poppies.  Alongside the building are the words "God Save the King" engraved into the stones.  Appropriate now Charles is the monarch, except, of course, the town hall was built in 1767 when the monarch was King George III.
