A Day Worth Recording

Spent more time than entirely expected making two poppy wreaths today. As clerk to the local Quaker meeting E had been involved in arrangements for wreath laying, but the usual florist has been a casualty of lockdown and no-one else admitted to crafting skills, it fell to us to experiment.  Turns out, evergreen oak foliage is particularly good - handy as we have many tons of the stuff.

These are for white poppies - one for central Malvern, one for the local memorial which E is going to lay on Sunday.  There is still more misunderstanding of the white poppy than there should be.  It is there to remember all victims of war, specifically including innocent civilians - all who are killed and suffer as a consequence of armed conflicts.

I'm not wholly comfortable with the way in which both white and red poppies are used by some.  In both cases there can be rather too much rhetoric getting in the way of respect and remembrance.

If I wear either, I wear both.
