Hidden

On a sunny morning in the season formerly  known as winter,  tree shadows stretch across the long abandoned  farm yard  of the location formerly known as Erw Goch (Red Acre).
(I only know that because I looked it up on Old Maps)

Now it's become a small rural camp site called The Hide: a lovely peaceful place with a wildlife pond, bird observation shelter, compost loos and a view to the sea. I just wish the old name hadn't been dumped, like so many others in Wales, to make it easier for holiday makers.

To be sure, Erw Goch involves that puzzling 'w' which is pronounced 'oo' in Welsh, and the final gutteral 'ch' as in a Scottish loch.

But we've all got used to referring to Beijing, Mumbai and Kyiv, and now Snowdon and Snowdonia have officially  been reverted to Yr Wyddfa and Eryri (see here).

To call the campsite 'The Hide at Erw Goch' would surely have been an acceptable compromise. An easy handle for visitors plus a nod to the hidden history.
