A good night out at the theatre

Woodpeckers and I went to see the musical of Carole King's early rise to fame as a song writer. It was a touring show called 'Beautiful' originally from the USA but having had a solid London run over several years. We watched a TV documentary about her life some months ago which reminded us of what an amazingly talented woman she is.

Molly Grace-Cutler, seen here as Carole King, was wonderful, but the whole cast were very good, both as actors and musical performers, all playing multiple instruments and singing many styles to evoke her songwriting in the 1950s and 60s. I remember her songs when they first came out. The show finishes just as she became a performer of her own material producing her album 'Tapestry' to great acclaim, which has never ended.

I do recommend watching this video of a gala performance in 2015 in recognition and honour of her talent, hosted by Barack and Michelle Obama at the Kennedy Centre. The performance of this song brings tears to everyones eyes and probably yours too.

I've also found this short article about the show, including an interview with Molly. There's also a short video of her singing in rehearsal which is a good reflection of how the show comes across.
