Spate

Having seen the weather forecast and the yellow alert following yesterday's rain, which resulted in roads awash with runoff, it was not our plan to set foot outside today.

However, a phone call from the Vet required us to collect Bramble's medication so, while we and the car were already wet, we went exploring the Water of Leith.

First some shopping and an early lunch of excellent soup at the Garden Bistro in Saughton Gardens, then we parked by the Dean Village. The river, not unusually, had flooded the path so we crossed the pedestrian bridge and walked downstream on Miller Row and the Water of Leith Walkway. Main photo was taken of the river under the Dean Bridge, watching the torrent crash into the abutment and spill round the overflow.

Then we drove through Stockbridge (though didn't stop to observe whether Antony Gormley's man was still standing) stopping at Warriston Road to see the river level - there  are very effective flood defences here but at present are not challenged - see extra. The bridge in view is the old railway line, now National Cycle Route 75.

We then pottered home, arriving as the sky brightened and the rain slackened off, to remove our wellies and drink a warming cuppa.
