This Is Not A Bike

It's a Buffalo Bike.

Our church has three projects to support this year and they were introduced this morning. They are all worthy causes but this one appeals in particular as it seems such an obvious solution to a problem: while the bicycle may be a satisfactory mode of transport, it needs to be economical and sturdy enough to endure the conditions that prevail.

World Bicycle Relief has designed the Buffalo Bike, a locally-assembled, rugged vehicle that can cope with African terrain and its rear rack is capable of carrying a load of 100kg, as demonstrated on this model. They may be used by students, to speed their journey to and from their education centre thus allow more time for study, for healthcare workers to attend more clinics, entrepreneurs to access their business. Included in the programme are trained field mechanics, essential for repair and maintenance with obtainable spare parts.

Sounds so simple, for a modest cost.
